Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Deeksha:
What inspired you to become a body transformation coach and specialise in gut health, weight loss, and diabetes?
My journey began with my own struggle. A few years ago, I weighed over 120 kilograms. Like many women, I tried multiple diets, shortcuts, and quick fixes, but nothing created lasting change. I constantly felt tired, inflamed, uncomfortable in my own body, and disconnected from myself.
What I eventually realised was that weight gain was only the visible symptom. The deeper issues were poor metabolic health, emotional eating, lifestyle imbalances, and a lack of understanding about how the body truly functions.
As I started learning nutrition science, behavior change, Ayurveda, and metabolic health, everything changed. Through consistent lifestyle changes, I naturally lost over 40 kilograms and transformed not only my body but also my energy, confidence, mindset, and overall health.
That personal transformation inspired me to help others. Today, as a Holistic Nutritionist, Diabetes Educator, and Body Transformation Coach, I help people address the root causes behind weight gain, diabetes, gut issues, hormonal imbalances, and low energy instead of simply chasing numbers on a scale.
You often say “heal metabolism” instead of just “lose weight.” What does that really mean?
Weight loss is an outcome. Metabolic health is the foundation.
Many people lose weight temporarily through restrictive diets or intense workout plans, only to gain it back because the real issue remains unresolved.
When I talk about healing metabolism, I mean improving how the body produces energy, regulates blood sugar, manages inflammation, balances hormones, digests food, and responds to stress.
When metabolism improves, people naturally experience:
> Better energy levels
> Reduced cravings
> Improved digestion
> Better sleep
> Stable blood sugar
> Hormonal balance
> Sustainable fat loss
The real goal isn’t becoming smaller; it’s becoming healthier, stronger, and more resilient.
What are the biggest signs that someone’s metabolism or gut health may not be functioning properly?
The body whispers before it screams.
Some common warning signs include constant fatigue despite adequate sleep, stubborn belly fat, bloating, gas, constipation, sugar cravings, brain fog, hair fall, poor skin health, irregular periods, mood swings, and rising blood sugar levels.
Many people normalise these symptoms because they’ve lived with them for years, but often these are signals of deeper metabolic dysfunction, digestive imbalance, inflammation, or hormonal issues.
There are countless diets today: keto, intermittent fasting, detoxes. What are people getting wrong about weight loss?
The biggest mistake is believing there’s one perfect diet.
People spend too much time searching for the “best diet” and too little time building sustainable habits.
Most diets fail because they’re designed to be followed for weeks, not for life.
I always tell my clients: consistency beats perfection every single time.
Weight loss isn’t about finding magic. It’s about understanding your body, improving sleep, managing stress, balancing blood sugar, eating enough protein and fiber, moving consistently, and building habits that fit your lifestyle.
The best diet is the one you can realistically follow while still enjoying your life.
Can someone genuinely lose weight and become healthy without medicines or extreme workouts?
In many cases, yes.
Of course, some individuals may require medication under medical supervision, and there’s absolutely no shame in that. But many people underestimate how powerful lifestyle changes can be.
My approach focuses on:
– Improving metabolic health
– Balancing blood sugar
– Healing digestion
– Optimising protein intake
– Improving sleep quality
– Managing stress
– Building sustainable daily habits
Most of my clients aren’t spending hours in the gym. Instead, we focus on creating a lifestyle that supports long-term health and helps the body function naturally.
How closely are gut health, hormones, stress, and weight gain connected?
They’re deeply interconnected.
The gut impacts inflammation, nutrient absorption, blood sugar regulation, and even mood. Chronic stress raises cortisol levels, which can increase cravings, disrupt sleep, worsen insulin resistance, and contribute to abdominal fat.
Hormones influence hunger, metabolism, reproductive health, and energy production.
That’s why someone may eat “healthy” and still struggle with fatigue, bloating, cravings, or stubborn weight gain. We cannot look at weight in isolation; we must look at the whole person.
Diabetes is rising rapidly, even among younger people. What lifestyle habits are contributing to this?
Modern lifestyles have become increasingly disconnected from how the human body is designed to function.
Some major contributors include:
> Excessive ultra-processed foods
> Constant snacking
> Poor sleep habits
> Chronic stress
> Sedentary lifestyles
> Lack of strength training or movement
> Excessive sugar intake
> Long sitting hours
Diabetes rarely appears overnight. Insulin resistance often develops silently for years before diagnosis.
The good news is that early lifestyle intervention through nutrition, movement, sleep, and stress management can significantly improve outcomes.
Through Ayurveda, how can someone naturally improve metabolism in today’s fast-paced lifestyle?
Ayurveda teaches us that health begins with balance.
One of its most powerful concepts is Agni, or digestive fire. When digestion works properly, the body absorbs nutrients efficiently and maintains balance.
Some simple Ayurvedic principles I recommend include:
– Eating meals at regular times
– Avoiding constant snacking
– Choosing freshly prepared foods
– Eating mindfully
– Prioritising quality sleep
– Supporting digestion with appropriate spices
– Spending time in nature
– Following daily routines that reduce stress
I combine timeless Ayurvedic wisdom with modern nutrition science because together they create a practical and sustainable path to better health.
Is there a client transformation story that deeply inspired you?
One story that deeply touched me was of a working mother who came to me feeling exhausted, frustrated, and disconnected from herself.
She struggled with excess weight, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, chronic bloating, constipation, swelling, poor sleep, and irregular periods. But more than the physical symptoms, she had lost confidence in herself.
During my 3-month program, she lost 17 kilograms and several inches. But the biggest transformation wasn’t the number on the scale.
Her digestion improved, bloating reduced, sleep became restful, periods became regular, and her energy returned. She moved from wearing 3XL to L, but more importantly, she regained her confidence and identity.
That transformation reminded me that true healing is never just about weight loss; it’s about helping people become themselves again.
What would be your biggest advice to someone who has tried everything but still struggles with weight or health issues?
Please don’t lose hope.
Your body is not broken.
Many people spend years blaming themselves when the real issue is that they’ve never addressed the root cause.
Instead of asking, “Why can’t I lose weight?” ask yourself, “What is my body trying to tell me?”
Focus on understanding your metabolism, digestion, hormones, sleep, stress, and lifestyle habits.
Health is not built through extreme efforts. It is built through small, consistent actions repeated over time.
I’m living proof of that, and so are many of my clients.
Small changes, done consistently, can create extraordinary transformations. The journey may take time, but it is absolutely possible.
