Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Manisha:
Could you share your professional journey and what inspired you to become a fashion stylist and image consultant?
I began my career as a data analyst and spent three years in the corporate world. Although it was a good career, I always felt that something was missing. My interest in fashion dated back to childhood, when I naturally observed how people dressed and often advised them on colours and styles that suited them.
The defining moment came after I completed my personal styling course and realised that I had been doing this instinctively for years. My first client was my eldest sister, whose styling journey taught me valuable lessons about the challenges and rewards of this profession.
Seeing her confidence grow and her friends appreciate her transformation made me realise that I had found my calling. That was how Style Alchemy by Manisha began. I am also deeply grateful to my siblings for their constant support and encouragement throughout this journey.
Your philosophy is to help people dress like themselves rather than follow trends. What does this mean to you?
To me, dressing like yourself means wearing clothes that genuinely reflect who you are rather than copying an aesthetic from social media. I begin every client interaction with a conversation about their lifestyle, preferences, daily routines, and comfort levels.
I then consider their body proportions, colours, and existing wardrobe to develop a style that feels natural and authentic. The ultimate goal is for clients to look in the mirror and recognise themselves, feeling comfortable and confident in what they wear.
How can the right clothing choices influence a person’s confidence and self-perception?
Clothing communicates something about us even before we speak. When an outfit fits well, complements our colouring, and reflects how we want to feel, it can help us stand taller, communicate more confidently, and feel less hesitant.
Confidence does not come from clothes alone, but the right clothing choices can remove some of the self-doubt that holds us back. I witnessed this with my first client, my eldest sister. When her friends began complimenting her, I noticed a change in how she carried herself. It was not just about the clothes; it was about how she felt wearing them.

How can people distinguish between a fashion trend worth experimenting with and a style that genuinely aligns with their identity?
I recommend asking three simple questions: Does it suit my body and colouring? Does it fit my lifestyle? Would I still feel like myself wearing it?
If the answer to all three is yes, it is worth experimenting with. If you only like the look on someone else or need to purchase several new pieces to make it work, it may not be the right choice for you.
I also encourage people to experiment gradually by introducing a new accessory, colour, or individual piece before committing to an entirely new look.
As a certified personal stylist and image consultant, what factors do you consider when creating a personalised style for a client?
I consider four essential factors: body proportions, colour palette, lifestyle, and personality.
Body proportions help me identify suitable cuts, fits, and silhouettes. Colour analysis helps determine which shades complement a person’s natural features. Lifestyle influences practical wardrobe choices, whether for work, travel, family, or special occasions. Personality ensures that the final look feels authentic to the individual.
No single factor is enough on its own. The real magic happens when all four come together harmoniously, which is also the inspiration behind the name Style Alchemy.
Many people believe that dressing well requires an expensive wardrobe or frequent shopping. What practical strategies would you recommend?
Expensive clothes do not automatically make someone well-dressed. I recommend starting with what you already own. Declutter your wardrobe, retain pieces that fit well and suit you, and identify the items you wear most frequently.
Build a versatile wardrobe around a few essential pieces in colours that complement you and can be mixed and matched easily. Learn to restyle familiar outfits using blazers, belts, accessories, and layering techniques.
Most importantly, shop with a clear plan and focus on filling genuine wardrobe gaps rather than buying a new outfit for every occasion. A smaller, thoughtfully curated wardrobe is far more effective than a large one that does not work for you.
What are some common styling mistakes people make, and how can they improve their overall appearance?
Some common mistakes include wearing ill-fitting clothes, shopping for an imagined lifestyle rather than one’s actual needs, overlooking colours that complement them, and blindly following trends.
Small changes can make a significant difference. Get essential pieces tailored, choose flattering colours, balance your proportions, and pay attention to details such as footwear, grooming, and accessories. You do not always need to spend more to improve your appearance; often, a few thoughtful adjustments can transform an outfit.
What is your vision for Style Alchemy, and what advice would you offer individuals looking to develop their personal style and confidence?
My vision is to make Style Alchemy a platform that helps people feel comfortable and confident in how they present themselves, whether I am working with clients in Delhi or virtually with individuals elsewhere.
My advice to anyone beginning their personal styling journey is to remain curious and patient. Pay attention to what makes you feel good, experiment in small steps, and avoid comparing your style with others. Personal style is a journey of self-discovery, and it should be enjoyable rather than restrictive.
Ultimately, fashion is not about becoming someone else. It is about discovering who you are and expressing that identity with confidence.
