Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Dr. Sonia:
Could you please walk us through your background and your journey? From dentistry to becoming a parenting coach and author.
My journey has been a blend of science, service, and soul. I began my professional career as a Dentist, practising for two years. Alongside that, I worked as a Team Administrator at IVY Hospital, Mohali, where I developed skills in leadership, communication, and connecting with people from all walks of life.
While dentistry gave me knowledge and discipline, I always felt a deeper calling toward the human side of healing—the mind, emotions, and relationships. That inner pull led me to pursue certification as a counsellor, where I had the opportunity to work closely with parents and teens. Through those experiences, I realised that many family struggles aren’t about ‘problems,’ but about ‘perspectives.’
That insight sparked my journey into parenting coaching. Today, I help parents and teens decode the psychology behind their chaos, triggers, and conflicts. My philosophy is simple: there is no ‘my way’ or ‘your way’ in parenting—only the right way for the moment. Parenting is not about perfection; it’s about connection.
This passion eventually inspired me to write my book No Living on the Edge… Somewhere in Between. It weaves together parenting, mental well-being, and spirituality, offering parents a perspective that nurtures strong, empathetic, and grounded youth. If my book can transform even one relationship or inspire even one parent to see things differently, I would consider it my greatest blessing.
Despite the challenges, what keeps you going when things get tough?
Challenges, to me, are an integral part of life. Without challenges, we cannot grow, and without growth, we cannot create change. Every tough situation is like a test that refines our qualities and strengthens our character.
I never see challenges as problems—they are opportunities, invitations to shift perspective, and to think from a different angle.
Of course, there are moments when we all feel stuck or need to pause. But for me, a pause doesn’t mean the end—it means I’m regaining my spiritual energy. That pause allows me to reset, reflect, and return with renewed strength. In fact, I believe those pauses are just as important as the action itself, because they prepare us for the next leap forward.
What are the three most important lessons you have learned in your life?
Key Lessons I’ve Learned in Life
1) It’s never too late to start again – You can reimagine and relive your life at any age. Dreams and goals don’t come with an expiry date.
2) Set healthy boundaries – Protecting your peace is your responsibility. You are accountable for your own mental and emotional well-being.
3) Faith and effort go hand in hand – Believe in the Almighty, trust the process, and always give your best.
Last but not least, what about your journey makes it satisfying/exciting?
For me, empathy is the highest expression of both humanity and spirituality. Real connection happens when we can step into someone’s shoes and truly understand their feelings.
I believe that if you have the quality, the calibre, or the capacity to help someone, you should contribute in whatever way you can. Even the smallest effort has the power to create a big difference in someone’s life.
