As part of this endeavour, we had the privilege of hosting Sharon Natarajan, Entrepreneur and Founder of Astrea Beauty, for an exclusive conversation. A visionary who blends ancient wisdom with modern science, Sharon’s journey is a testament to resilience, innovation, and purpose-led entrepreneurship.

Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Sharon:

Your journey into skincare started with personal skin allergies—how did that struggle transform into building Astrea as a purpose-driven brand?

My journey into skincare began with a deeply personal struggle—persistent skin allergies and the frustration of not finding products that truly healed my skin.

After trying countless solutions without success, I turned inward. I began studying skincare more intentionally, exploring gentler, vegan, and truly clean alternatives.

What started as a personal search soon led to creating my first formulation—and that was the seed of Astrea.

But this journey went far beyond skincare. It became a lifestyle shift—embracing mindfulness, slowing down, and aligning with a more conscious way of living. That inner transformation became the foundation of Astrea.

Astrea is not just a skincare brand; it is built on purpose—to create products that enable real transformation, just as they did for me.

You chose to build Astrea around the lesser-known Siddha science—what made you take that unconventional path instead of following popular Ayurveda trends?

Choosing Siddha was not about going against trends—it was about authenticity.

Being based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Siddha is deeply rooted in our cultural and geographical context. It felt natural to draw from a system that is both ancient and deeply relevant to where we come from.

What truly resonated with us is Siddha’s philosophy—it focuses on restoring balance rather than merely correcting concerns. That aligns seamlessly with our vision of creating vegan, clean beauty that works in harmony with the skin.

Each Astrea product carries a story—drawn from traditional South Indian rituals and Siddha healing practices, thoughtfully reinterpreted through modern scientific formulations.

In embracing Siddha, we are also bringing a powerful yet lesser-known healing system to the forefront, making its wisdom accessible to a global audience.

Astrea blends ancient wisdom with modern science—how do you ensure credibility and effectiveness in your formulations?

At Astrea, blending tradition with science is a conscious and rigorous process.

While our inspiration comes from Siddha healing practices, every formulation is backed by scientific research and developed into high-performance skincare. All products are created in-house, giving us complete control over quality, ingredients, and formulation integrity.

Each product undergoes multiple levels of testing to ensure safety, stability, and efficacy.

To reinforce credibility, we adhere to EcoCert Cosmos Natural Certification, one of the most stringent global standards. This certification evaluates not just the final product, but the entire ecosystem—from ingredient sourcing to manufacturing practices.

For us, science is not separate from tradition—it is what enables us to preserve its essence while delivering trustworthy, results-driven skincare.

In an industry flooded with “natural” claims, how do you build trust and differentiate truly clean, chemical-free skincare?

In a market crowded with “natural” claims, trust must be earned through proof—not positioning.

For us, it begins with patience. We invest time in developing each product thoroughly, ensuring it is backed by rigorous testing rather than rushing to market.

A key differentiator is our EcoCert Cosmos Natural certification, which validates not just our formulations, but our entire process—ingredient sourcing, manufacturing, and brand integrity.

We are among the very few brands in India to hold this certification—and notably, the first vegan brand in the country to achieve it.

This level of transparency, compliance, and commitment sets Astrea apart in the clean beauty space.

Astrea products are preservative-free with shorter shelf lives—how do you balance purity with scalability and sustainability?

Balancing purity with scalability has been a critical focus from the start.

While clean, preservative-free formulations naturally come with shorter shelf lives, we invested deeply in R&D to address this challenge without compromising our philosophy.

Through extensive formulation work and rigorous stability testing, we have achieved a shelf life of up to 18 months across our products.

This milestone reflects how thoughtful science can support clean beauty—making it both effective and scalable, without diluting its integrity.

You’ve built Astrea as more than a brand—as a movement around conscious beauty. What does that movement stand for today?

Conscious beauty is not just a category—it is a movement, and one that is still evolving, especially in India.

It goes beyond “natural” or “clean” labels. It is about a holistic approach—formulations that are safe, gentle, environmentally mindful, and cruelty-free, rooted in the philosophy of slow beauty.

It is also about intention—how we create and how we consume.

At a deeper level, conscious beauty challenges conventional standards. If beauty is truly subjective, it must also be inclusive—embracing all skin tones, types, and identities.

This movement is about shifting beauty from trends to awareness, from perfection to authenticity.

What were the biggest challenges in educating consumers about Siddha and holistic skincare?

The biggest challenge is awareness.

Unlike Ayurveda, Siddha is still relatively lesser-known, especially in modern skincare. As one of the first brands drawing from Siddha principles, we are navigating largely uncharted territory.

Another challenge is its inherently holistic nature. Siddha encourages a slower, ritual-based approach—focused on balance rather than quick fixes.

This requires a mindset shift for today’s consumer, who is accustomed to instant results.

Helping people pause, listen to their skin, and embrace skincare as a mindful ritual—not just a routine—is both the challenge and the opportunity.

From formulating your first product to building a full-fledged brand – what was the toughest transition in your entrepreneurial journey?

Having built businesses before, this journey felt deeply different—and far more personal.

My earlier ventures were in the service space, where outcomes are faster and more immediate. Building Astrea meant stepping into the world of products—where everything takes time.

Formulation, testing, refinement, and validation require patience and long-term commitment. There are no shortcuts—the product must be right before it reaches the consumer.

That shift—from speed to depth—was the toughest transition. But it was essential to create something truly aligned with our philosophy.

Personalization is becoming key in skincare—how do you see customized beauty shaping the future?

Personalization is not just a trend—it is the future of skincare.

No two skins are truly the same. Beyond basic skin types, factors like lifestyle, nutrition, environment, climate, and even mental well-being influence how skin behaves.

The industry is moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach toward more precise, individualized solutions.

The future lies in understanding these nuances—and creating skincare that adapts to each individual, rather than expecting the individual to adapt to products.

If Astrea were to create a lasting legacy, what impact would you want it to have globally?

Astrea’s legacy would be to redefine how we approach beauty.

From something fast, corrective, and trend-driven—to something slower, intentional, and deeply aligned.

In an increasingly cluttered space of quick fixes, we want to inspire a return to pause.

To see skincare not as something to “fix” the skin, but as a way to understand it, listen to it, and restore balance.

Our philosophy is rooted in slow beauty—mindful choices, deeper connection, and rituals over routines.

If we can inspire that shift—toward awareness, balance, and authenticity—that would be a meaningful and lasting impact on the global beauty and wellness space.
