Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Dr. Uma:
What was your personal turning point that led you into inner child and trauma healing work?
My turning point came when I began to recognize that many of my emotional triggers, relationship struggles, and self-worth challenges were rooted in childhood wounds I had never truly addressed.
As I started working on my own healing, something shifted within me. I began to see myself with more compassion and less blame. That inner shift changed how I experienced life—and it naturally led me to support others on their healing journeys as well.
How would you explain inner child healing to someone who has never heard of it before?
Inner child healing is about tending to the younger parts of you that still carry unresolved pain.
Many of the fears, triggers, and patterns we struggle with as adults often begin much earlier—especially if we grew up feeling unseen, unsafe, rejected, or “not enough.” Growing older doesn’t automatically heal those wounds; they continue to show up in subtle ways—through people-pleasing, self-doubt, anxiety in relationships, or emotional reactivity.
Inner child healing helps you understand where these patterns come from. It’s not about staying stuck in the past, but about giving that younger version of yourself the safety, care, and validation they may not have received then.
As this healing unfolds, you begin to feel more aware, grounded, and capable of responding to life with greater clarity and calm.
What are the most common signs that someone is carrying unresolved childhood wounds?
Some common signs include being easily triggered and struggling with self-worth, even when life appears stable on the surface.
This can show up as people-pleasing, overgiving, and difficulty setting boundaries. For some, it manifests as a deep fear of rejection, abandonment, or being misunderstood. For others, it appears in repeating unhealthy relationship patterns.
You may notice a strong inner critic, persistent feelings of shame, or a tendency to seek validation externally. It can also look like avoiding conflict, shutting down emotionally, or not knowing how to express your needs.
In some cases, it shows up as procrastination, self-sabotage, or feeling stuck despite wanting to move forward.
At the core, there is often a deeper sense of not feeling safe within yourself. While not every struggle stems from childhood wounds, recurring patterns—especially in relationships and emotional responses—can signal that deeper healing is needed.
How does hypnotherapy help in accessing and healing deep subconscious trauma?
Hypnotherapy works by guiding you into a deeply relaxed state where the conscious mind quiets and the subconscious becomes more accessible.
This is important because trauma isn’t always stored as clear memories—it often lives in emotional responses, body sensations, beliefs, and survival patterns. That’s why someone can intellectually understand something yet still react in the same old ways.
Hypnotherapy helps access the root of these patterns—beyond what talk alone can reach. From that space, emotional release becomes possible, limiting beliefs can shift, and the nervous system can begin to feel safer. Over time, healthier responses naturally emerge.
It’s important to note that effective hypnotherapy is gentle and supportive. It does not force someone to relive trauma but allows healing to happen safely, at a pace the person can handle.
In essence, it works at the root—not just the surface.
What is one powerful myth about trauma or healing that you would like to break?
One of the biggest myths is that healing means you will never get triggered again.
That isn’t true. Healing doesn’t eliminate emotions like hurt, fear, or anger. It changes your relationship with them. You become more aware of your patterns and more capable of responding consciously rather than reacting from old wounds.
Another misconception is that healing is linear and neat. In reality, it’s often layered and nonlinear. Sometimes old feelings resurface—not because you’re going backward, but because a deeper layer is ready to heal.
Healing isn’t about perfection. It’s about becoming more aware, more whole, and more able to hold yourself through life’s experiences.
How are emotional blocks connected to chakra imbalances in your experience?
In my experience, emotional blocks and chakra imbalances are closely connected.
Each chakra relates to specific emotions and life areas. For example:
> Feeling unsafe often relates to the root chakra
> Self-worth and confidence connect to the solar plexus
> Grief or difficulty with love links to the heart chakra
> Challenges in expression relate to the throat chakra
When emotions like fear, shame, grief, or anger remain unprocessed, they can create “stuck” energy. Over time, this can feel like heaviness, confusion, or emotional resistance.
That said, I don’t approach chakras rigidly. For me, they are a helpful lens to understand what someone may be holding emotionally. True healing comes from addressing the underlying pain—when that shifts, the energy naturally begins to flow again.
When someone feels emotionally triggered or overwhelmed, what is one immediate technique they can use to regulate themselves?
A simple and effective practice is the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique.
It helps bring your awareness back to the present moment instead of getting lost in overwhelming thoughts.
You gently notice:
a) 5 things you can see
b) 4 things you can feel
c) 3 things you can hear
d) 2 things you can smell
e) 1 thing you can taste
You can begin and end with a deep breath to help your body settle further.
This technique is powerful because it’s simple and can be done anywhere. It gently reminds your nervous system that you are safe in the present moment.
What is the biggest transformation you’ve witnessed in a client through your healing work?
One of the most powerful transformations I’ve witnessed was a client moving from constant anxiety, panic, and low self-confidence to feeling grounded, calm, and secure within herself.
When she began, she had been carrying years of unresolved trauma that deeply affected her daily life. She struggled with negative thought patterns, panic attacks, and a persistent sense of inner unrest.
As we worked together through healing sessions, subconscious work, and nervous system support, she gradually began to feel safer within herself. Over time, she became more emotionally stable, self-aware, and connected to her own worth.
What stood out most was not just that she felt better—but that she started trusting herself again. She showed up differently in her personal and professional life, with confidence and inner peace.
That shift—from survival mode to inner safety and self-belief—is what true transformation looks like to me.
What makes your approach to healing different from others in this space?
My approach is deeply personalized. I use different healing modalities based on what each individual truly needs, because healing is not one-size-fits-all.
I also bring my own lived experience into this work. Having gone through childhood trauma and my own healing journey, I don’t just guide from theory—I understand it from a deeply human place.
Along with that, I carry the wisdom of 54 years of life, healing, unlearning, and self-discovery. This allows me to hold space with compassion, depth, and honesty.
For me, healing is not a formula—it’s a deeply personal, layered journey.
For someone who feels stuck in life, where should they begin their healing journey—and why?
Start with awareness.
When people feel stuck, they often look for quick fixes—answers, action, or immediate change. But real healing begins more quietly. It starts with pausing and honestly looking within.
Notice your patterns.
What keeps repeating?
What triggers you?
What drains your energy?
Ask yourself:
– How do I really feel?
– What am I carrying?
– What am I avoiding?
– What part of me needs care right now?
From there, support can help—whether through journaling, therapy, coaching, or practices that help your body feel safe again.
Healing isn’t about doing more. It’s about understanding yourself more deeply. And when that clarity begins, the path forward naturally becomes clearer.
