Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Dr Kamlesh

Talk us through your background and your journey as an entrepreneur, please;

I did my schooling from Jawahar Vidyapith, Kanore, District Udaipur, Government Secondary School, Chhoti Sarvan, District Banswara and Vidya Bhawan Senior Secondary School, Udaipur and further pursued MBBS and MD Microbiology from the prestigious B J Medical College in Ahmedabad and DCP (Diploma In Clinical Pathology) from Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal.

I was a passionate individual from the beginning and always aspired to be one of the only achievers by delivering high performance in all my fields. To add to my skills and knowledge, I also completed post-graduation in two subjects after MBBS namely Pathology and Microbiology.

In my board certificate, I received extra credit as being a scientific person with good research ability. During my college days, I took part in major contests and competitions since I was an all-rounder in working for the betterment of the system, Hence I received more than 30 credit hours by attending various conferences across Gujarat During my Post Graduation in Microbiology.”

I have also appeared in the USMLE exam and got 100 percentile in diagnostic subjects, namely Hematology, Microbiology and Biochemistry.

I have always been very passionate about building something on my own that can solve major problems related to laboratory diagnosis. We all know how much the pathology lab system is disturbed and mostly unavailable for the common public, especially in remote areas. www.drkamlesh.com is just the beginning of the journey towards the betterment of the health system.”

I did a lot of research in this space and came out with an innovative and successful product in the field of Pathology Lab Services.”

Our focus is to connect all authentic pathology labs of India to provide the best health services to the public.

Since 2016 I am into the pathology lab business and started a lab Name Livepath Laboratory in Banswara, Rajasthan and in the month of November of 2020 we have launched our website www.drkamlesh.com for the betterment of health services across the country and we have many labs associated with our website and served to more than 10000 people in crisis months of the second wave of Covid.

What attracts you towards entrepreneurship instead of a corporate career?

I chose entrepreneurship because I always wanted to make an impact. I have always been intrigued by entrepreneurship and read success stories of all successful entrepreneurs.

You see – It’s fascinating how you build something from scratch to build an empire around it and not everyone can do it. It takes a lot of courage, planning, perseverance, hard work, teamwork, combined with good strategy & execution skills. Thanks to my mentor Shrey Upadhyay who gave me valuable inputs to make the journey a lot easier for me.

I always love to work for the public health domain to help many people. This behaviour has been adopted since my childhood. In the last few years, I have experienced that many pathology labs are practising unethically and cheating people like anything. Also, the system of cut practice touches the sky high as many labs are ready to offer up to 70 % as cut to the clinicians which is very dangerous for the future of health services in India.

Dr Kamlesh Patel

‘DrKamlesh.com’ is such a unique name; talk us through more about it, please. Our audience would also love to know what kind of problem you are solving with the help of your startup?

Yes, this is right that drkamlesh.com is a unique name. This credit totally goes to Shrey Upadhyay as he suggested this name. Trust of the people is a very important part of our project and if we give some brand name to our project will not be that much useful in trust-building.

If we use a doctor’s name then people will trust more than a brand name. Our motivation is to stop unnecessary cut practices, which is very frequently emerging nowadays.”

During this COVID-19 crisis, what are the measures you have undertaken to continue your business without disruption?

Our business is to help people and during this Covid pandemic, we have helped more than 10000 people across the country. Our team is dedicatedly working hard and we don’t misuse the money for unnecessary marketing of our products. We believe that our aim is very much refined and only to help people so there is less chance of any big loss. Our team open-heartedly helping everyone.

How do you manage yourself and keep on going despite the challenges? What drives you?

I always try to make sure that I empower the right people for the right work. This way I do not feel overburdened with work that leads to stress. In my free time, I try to travel, spend time with my family, and try to maintain my work-life balance as much as possible. Travelling helps me clear my mind and focus on issues that need my attention.

I would say that I get motivated seeing my parents work tirelessly in their respective fields and that drives me to go on despite all the challenges. My driving forces are my father’s trust in me and my honesty.

In your opinion – what is more necessary: Ideas or a good team for a successful startup?

In my opinion, it should be a mix of both. You just cannot go ahead with an idea jotted down on a piece of paper without like-minded people working on it.

I have seen companies with very innovative ideas with niche market segments fail just because they lacked proper team spirit in them.”

To be successful, you should team up with co-founders who share your vision behind the idea and you also need to hire the right people for the right position so that it gets implemented in a proper way.

You are always positive and motivated, what keeps you going?

I love my work. Anything you do in life you have to have a passion for and should not feel like work.

I enjoy the challenges and try to develop newer ways for the betterment of health services.

We would love to know your advice for all those starting out as an aspiring entrepreneurs?

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and see them as an opportunity to learn and last but the most important “Lage Raho”.
