Garvit Arora

At BrilliantRead Media, our aim is to bring to our community some of the unique and compelling stories from the start-up ecosystem. As part of this endeavour, we invited yet another passionate entrepreneur – Garvit Arora for an exclusive interview with us. He is the Co-founder and Creative Director of DAGA LABEL INDIA. Let’s learn more about his inspirational journey and his advice for our growing community!

Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Garvit:

We are aware of your contribution to the ecosystem, talk us through your background and your journey as an entrepreneur, please;

I did my schooling from DPSG and further pursued Fashion Design from Istituto Marangoni Mumbai and dropped after my first year. I always wanted to study abroad but I couldn’t as I had started my business on a small scale with my Elder brother Divyansh during my school years.

I was curious to get all the knowledge as fast as I could, had 2 Internships during my First Semester to add to my skills and knowledge before anyone else in my batch. I had more interest in learning things practically which is why I chose IM for my Higher ED. But unfortunately, I couldn’t study ahead and go ahead with my studies.”

As they say, Life doesn’t go as planned. My Father also a Fashion designer, fell sick for months and we had to take care of the business. My Brother Divyansh & I started handling our Father’s business as our father had taught us most of the things about the business during our school days. It was challenging, but we managed most of it.

During my Uni days, we had a Master Class with Rahul Mishra Sir (Fashion Designer), I was Pretty Impressed by the way he had explained to us how the Fashion Industry is majorly responsible for our eco-system. I was shocked by how some brands are exploiting our Eco- System and how it’s going to affect us the humans in the coming years.

I did a lot of research in this space and came out with an innovative and successful idea to manufacture clothes for the needful with the Scrap fabric present in the Manufacturing units.”

We made a team of a few people in Noida and collected the scrap fabrics from those particular units.

Turned the scraps to fabrics by joining them piece by piece and made clothes for the needful people in a Village ‘Jasola Vihar’.

We still do it.

What attracts you towards entrepreneurship instead of a corporate career?

I have seen my Father since my childhood, how much respect he has earned in the Industry by creating so many Jobs for the needful, trained people to bring the best out of them and made an impact in the industry by being on the back-end for so many Designers.

I have always desired to be like him to make an impact in this country and then make our country proud by making my brand a global luxury.”

‘Daga Label’ is such a unique name; talk us through more about it, please. Our audience would also love to know what kind of problem you are solving with the help of your startup?

DAGA is initial for Divyansh Arora & Garvit Arora. We are known for having a life in every stitch. Our team of experts is backed with amazing artisanal knowledge; work to create sartorial masterpieces with mind-blowing quality and fitting.”

Every garment is stitched with love, trust and great care. Each of our design holds some story that instantly draws attention. We also don’t have an age barrier, we have a client base from every age group with a different set of designs for different age groups to carry. We strongly believe that every person holds a natural gift in the form of a unique shape, colour and size. By dressing them well we value this gift and enhance their confidence and sense of self.

During this COVID-19 crisis, what are the measures you have undertaken to continue your business without disruption?

As the business is born during COVID, each measure is taken to ensure that the model aligns with challenges of the pandemic.

~ Our business model consists of a lean team which is not at all resource-heavy and has minimal overheads.

~ The freelancer model ensures each and every work can be handled remotely, where we don’t need to do physical meetings

Garvit Arora

How do you manage yourself and keep on going despite the challenges? What drives you?

My parents, I’ve seen them working hard day and night and also my passion for Fashion and my aim to make DAGA LABEL INDIA, one-stop-shop for luxury menswear with global appeal.

In your opinion – what is more necessary: Idea or a good team for a successful startup?

In my opinion, it should be a mix of both. You just cannot go ahead with an idea jotted down on a piece of paper without like-minded people working on it.

I have seen companies with very innovative ideas with niche market segment fail just because they lacked proper team spirit in them.”

To be successful, you should team up with co-founders who share your vision behind the idea and you also need to hire the right people for the right position so that it gets implemented in a proper way.

You are always positive and motivated, what keeps you going?

I’d be lying if I say I am Positive and calm always.

I’m an optimistic person, Yes but I’m more Practical in life. There are days when I’m don’t see things going in the right direction and I can’t keep it but that drives me for sure.

I get motivated to even more when I see there’s a problem, my Mind processes quicker and I come up with new ideas all the time.

We would love to know your advice for all those starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur?

Take action, feel responsible and follow your passion. Trust yourself and you’ll make it.
