EnglishYaari | This Week’s Startup Story

Team EnglishYaari

As part of our relentless pursuit to identify and share with our community some of the unique and compelling startup stories from the ecosystem, this week we spoke to Team EnglishYaari to understand more about their journey, their vision and the way forward.

EnglishYaari provides Live, 1-on-1 Online, English Classes with friendly English Tutors over Video chat 24/7 at an affordable price. Founded by 4 College Students: Vikas Gupta, Piyush Shekhar, Aniket Kumar, and Sandeep Kumar Singh currently studying at a Govt Engg college, MIT Muzaffarpur, Bihar.

Excerpts from our exclusive interview with EnglishYaari:

Where did the idea to start EnglishYaari come from?

The reason we started EnglishYaari was because during our first year of college, we used to hesitate to speak in public, especially in English.

Later on, we realized that this was a common problem many people face. Despite having excellent skills in our respective fields, our lack of confidence and fear of being judged prevented us from expressing ourselves clearly in English. The root cause of this is a lack of an environment to practice speaking in a supportive, non-judgmental setting.

That’s why we created EnglishYaari, the most effective and affordable platform to practice English speaking skills through live, 1-on-1 classes with friendly tutors. You can take these classes from anywhere and at any time, in a non-judgmental environment.

The best part of EnglishYaari is that it allows learners to choose their own tutors and select their convenient time to take classes.

Why 1-on-1 Classes?

It is the most effective way to improve English speaking skills. The advantages of 1-on-1 classes include:

> Personalized attention

> Instant correction

> Judgment-free practice

> Easy clarification of doubts.

EnglishYaari

‘EnglishYaari’ is such a unique name; Let us know more about it, please

The name EnglishYaari means “Your yaari to improve English!”

The word “Yaari” comes from the Hindi language, which means friendship.

At EnglishYaari, we provide a friendly environment for practising English conversation in live, 1-on-1 classes with friendly tutors.

Being a college student, How do you manage to keep going despite the challenges? What drives the team?

We are 4th-year students at the Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. As engineering students, it was initially challenging for us to learn about business fundamentals such as marketing, sales, operations, finance, hiring, and product development.

However, we divided the work among ourselves and started learning about all these fundamentals in order to build a successful startup. Throughout our journey as student entrepreneurs, our college seniors have provided us with mentorship and technical advice.

We started EnglishYaari in May 2021 and have been helping people improve their English speaking skills ever since. Whenever learners give us positive feedback about how EnglishYaari has helped them, it motivates and drives our team forward.

What is one strategy that you guys believe has helped you grow as a team/startup?

As a bootstrapped startup, we cannot afford to spend a lot of money on marketing. Our primary focus is to understand our customers’ needs and provide them with the best learning experience. That’s why word of mouth has been our most effective marketing tool.

More than 500 EnglishYaari conversation videos have been uploaded to YouTube by over 60 EnglishYaari learners, who are sharing their English learning journeys with the world. This has been the best marketing for us, at no cost.

Please share with us your expansion plans; what’s the way forward?

– We have plans to expand EnglishYaari to other countries where English is not the native language, such as the Middle East, China, Brazil, Turkey, Japan, and Korea.

– Soon, we will be launching courses on interview preparation, soft skills, IELTS preparation, and more.

– Our goal is to provide an affordable and convenient way for people to improve their English speaking skills and build confidence.

In your opinion, what is more necessary: an idea or a good team for a successful startup?

In our opinion, there is no value in an idea unless it is executed.

Good planning, execution through hard work, and persistence are important for a successful startup.

What advice would you give students and young professionals who want to have a successful career?

Explore yourself by learning new skills to discover what suits you and interests you. Most students choose a path based on societal or familial expectations, but it’s important to give yourself more options so you can pursue your passions with full potential.
