At Brilliant Read Media, it is our constant endeavour to identify and share some of the unique and compelling stories from the startup ecosystem. As part of this, we invited Jaayaanti Mittal for an interview with Brilliant Read Media. To say it further, Jaayaanti is an Image Consultant and Personal Stylist. Let’s learn more about her background, inspiring journey so far and her advice for our growing community!
Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Jaayaanti:
You often say, “Dressing the woman you’re becoming.” What does that philosophy truly mean, and how can clothing influence personal transformation?
For me, “Dressing the woman you’re becoming” means aligning your outer appearance with your inner aspirations.
Many women believe they have to wait for the right time to lose weight, earn a promotion, or reach a milestone before they start dressing the way they truly want to. I believe the opposite.
When you begin showing up as the person you aspire to become, you naturally start thinking differently, carrying yourself with greater confidence, and making more intentional choices. Your mindset shifts because you’ve already stepped into that future version of yourself.
Style isn’t superficial; it’s an expression of self-respect and self-love. The way we dress influences how we feel, how we communicate, and even how others perceive us.
For me, it’s never about copying someone else’s style or chasing every trend. It’s about discovering the best version of yourself and expressing that through what you wear.
Don’t wait for the world to give you permission to become the woman you want to be. Dress like her today, and you’ll gradually grow into her tomorrow.
What inspired you to become a Personal Stylist and Image Consultant? Was there a defining moment that made you realize this was your calling?
Fashion has been a part of my life since childhood. My mother often says that all I wanted to do was read fashion magazines. However, I come from a Marwari family where engineering, medicine, and business were considered the conventional career paths. Fashion was never seen as a profession.
Even as a child, I loved dressing up and experimenting with clothes. Whenever I wore something that made me feel good, I felt happier and more confident. Looking back, I realize fashion always had a way of uplifting and healing me.
The defining moment came while I was working in a corporate environment. I noticed that whenever people felt good about how they looked, they spoke more confidently, embraced bigger opportunities, and carried themselves differently.
That’s when I realized the transformation wasn’t happening because they were wearing expensive clothes; it happened because, for the first time, they truly saw themselves differently. It wasn’t about fashion; it was about self-worth, self-love, and mindset.
That realization inspired me to become a Personal Stylist and Image Consultant. For me, this profession has never been just about clothes it’s about helping people discover their confidence and step into the person they’re meant to become.
You’ve transformed more than 500 professionals. What are the most common styling mistakes people make that unknowingly affect their confidence or professional presence?
The biggest mistake I see is that people dress out of habit instead of dressing with intention.
Most professionals simply get dressed to reach the office without thinking about the impression they’re creating or the message they’re communicating through their appearance.
Many continue dressing for a previous version of themselves. They may still dress like they did in college or at the beginning of their careers, even though they’ve grown into leadership positions. Their wardrobe simply hasn’t evolved alongside their personal and professional growth.
Another common mistake is prioritizing comfort at the expense of presentation. Comfort is important, but it shouldn’t mean compromising on looking polished and professional. The goal is to strike the right balance.
Most importantly, many people try to blend in rather than stand out. Professionally, visibility matters. You don’t need expensive or trendy clothes you need clothing that reflects who you are, where you’re headed, and the confidence you want to project.
When you dress with intention, people don’t just notice your outfit; they notice your presence.
How do you help clients discover a personal style that feels authentic instead of simply following fashion trends?
I always begin with the person, not the wardrobe.
I take the time to understand my client’s lifestyle, profession, personality, daily routine, and long-term aspirations. Every individual deserves a wardrobe that genuinely reflects who they are.
Once I understand that, we identify the colours, silhouettes, fabrics, and styles that truly suit them, not what’s currently trending.
Fashion trends come and go, but personal style is timeless. It shapes not only how others perceive you but also how you perceive yourself.
My goal isn’t simply to make someone look fashionable. It’s to help them build a signature style that feels authentic, polished, confident, and unmistakably their own.
Many women experience major life transitions career growth, motherhood, or personal reinvention. How should personal style evolve during these phases?
Women wear many different hats throughout life, and every new chapter deserves a wardrobe that reflects who they are becoming.
Whether it’s stepping into motherhood, moving into a leadership role, or embracing a completely new phase of life, priorities naturally evolve. Comfort becomes important, but so does confidence. Practicality matters, but elegance should never be sacrificed.
I encourage women to see personal style as an investment in their next chapter rather than a luxury. Style isn’t about trends or expensive clothing; it’s about showing up intentionally.
Your wardrobe should support the life you’re living today while empowering you to confidently step into the life you’re creating tomorrow.
Can you share a memorable client transformation where styling led to a deeper shift in confidence, identity, or even career success?
One transformation that has stayed with me involved a senior professional at Taj Cement.
She was exceptionally talented, yet she constantly felt overlooked not only by her colleagues at work but, sadly, even within her own family. Years of feeling unseen had deeply affected her confidence, and during our sessions she often became emotional while sharing her experiences.
Our work went far beyond clothing. We first addressed the mindset barriers and emotional baggage that had been holding her back. Once we built that foundation, we refined her wardrobe by identifying colours, silhouettes, and styling choices that reflected the capable leader she already was.
The biggest transformation wasn’t external it was internal.
She began speaking with greater confidence, contributing more actively in meetings, and presenting herself with authority. A few months later, she accepted a leadership opportunity she would never have considered before.
One sentence she shared with me continues to stay with me:
“I finally feel like people see me the way I see myself.”
Moments like these remind me why I do what I do. The real transformation isn’t about clothes; it’s about confidence, self-belief, and identity. Style simply becomes the bridge that helps people step into the next version of themselves.
