Rheya Doshi

At BrilliantRead Media, our aim is to bring to our community some of the unique and compelling stories from the start-up ecosystem. As part of this endeavour, we invited yet another passionate entrepreneur Rheya Doshi for an exclusive interview with us. Rheya is a Dietitian, Nutrigenomic Counsellor, Naturopath, Lifestyle and Health Coach and Founder of Yellow Bowl. Let’s learn more about her inspirational journey and her advice for our growing community!

Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Rheya:

We are aware of your contribution to the ecosystem, talk us through your background and your journey, please;

I did my schooling from ST. Thomas High School and took admission in the prestigious Nirmala Niketan College of Home Science with a specialization in Food Nutrition & Dietetics.

My passion to study further in the subject of dietetics led me to The I.H.M.C.T.A.N (Dadar Catering) College. There on I did my internship from LTMG (SION) Hospital followed by S.L Raheja hospital (Mahim).

During my college days, I took part in many contests, competitions & cultural activities. In one of the food fests held at my college,  I was awarded in the category of ” innovation for best recipe” for patients with renal diseases and illnesses.

I further developed an interest in learning naturopathy for which I did a diploma and a certificate course in plant-based nutrition.

My thirst for research in the subject led me to learn the latest courses in nutrition in Nutrigenomics (study of genetics and application of nutrition in preventing lifestyle disorders).”

What made you passionate about ‘Dietician’?

What could be more satisfying than bringing emotional and physical stability and happiness to a person through my work.  The fact that I can listen to someone’s health and emotional issues peacefully, with the intent of reaching their root causes and wanting to offer a solution based on my skills and knowledge, gives me immense peace and innate happiness and motivates me to help more people and make a difference.

Most of the time I empower and encourage people to take care of their own health rather than depending on others for every suggestion. I do this, through food education and practices. This feeling is very satisfying, and in turn, inspires me to help more.”

I believe we all are capable of making any change we desire for ourselves. Whether you are dealing with anxiety/phobia, pain, limiting belief or weight issues, confidence and self-belief can enhance your ability and give you the tools you need to help you change what’s holding you back due to negative thoughts or harmful habits and more.

‘Yellow bowl’ is such a unique name; talk us through more about it, please. Our audience would also love to know what kind of problem you are solving?

Wondering why yellow!!. Well, yellow is the most vibrant of all colours. It represents the might of the sun, its energy and enlightenment, its growth and unending faith.

No other colour signifies healing as much as the warm glow of yellow. Yellow signifies energy, the colour of healing and radiance, hence the name YELLOW. And BOWL because we offer concoctions of customised services to our clients.

What sets it apart from the competition is that it’s a one-stop-shop for all health seekers. Developing good health should be an enriching experience and everyone truest to the cause deserves the best.

How do you manage to keep going despite the challenges? What drives you?

My mission in life is not to merely survive, but to make a difference; and to do so with some passion and compassion and by using my knowledge to the utmost use. We are driven by passion and we follow our instincts all the time.

My moments are those events when I see my clients getting treated merely just by the right choice and amount of food. When they treat their body by using food as medicine and discover a healthy difference within themselves are the moments that help me keep going on and on.

Well, of course, I have always believed that our ability to handle life’s challenges is a measure of our strength of character. I would not be shy to agree that I did face challenges where the client doesn’t feel motivated enough to follow the plan given, challenges in persistently practising ethically and preventing your client from falling prey to unethical malpractices and keeping the client’s faith high in me all the time is challenging.

There is nothing like a challenge to bring out the best in man and every challenge can be used as a stepping stone to grow and this is what consistently drives me to work.

Who do you believe has been the biggest source of motivation in your daily life?

My dream is to make a difference in people’s lives by bringing about a change in their well being and health.  That desire is definitely my constant source of motivation for sure.

The subconscious urge in me makes me keep myself updated with the latest skills and knowledge to this end.

My kids somehow through their emotional thoughts and actions always teach me to never give up.

My clients’ constant faith and undying trust in me motivates me to level up.

What are some of the strategies that you believe have helped you grow as a person?

There are a few:

1) Being focused and determined.

2) Been confident through upgraded knowledge and skills.

3) Keeping my character and integrity intact all the time.

4) Taking ownership and accountability for my actions.

5) Maintaining ethical practice and consistently imparting values.

6) Ability to take risks & venture into uncharted territories.

Please share with us, how do you motivate your clients?

A very important factor that I always remember is that the person who has come to me is expecting some sort of solution. And, to find a solution I need to hear out the person well, if I can become a good listener the chances of solving their issues become way higher.

Out of my experience, I have understood that in the initial phase of consultation, motivation works through asking questions and solving doubts and offering solutions accordingly. But later I believe empowering the person and reminding him/her about her goal through various techniques works wonders …of course, this is backed up by constant follow-ups and check-in calls.

Investing in developing good relationships works well with the diet. Being genuine and speaking facts fearlessly imparts a lot of satisfaction and then they are able to set realistic goals for themselves; which in turn is the key.

Adding FUN elements to everything that I do makes achieving their goals very enriching and memorable.

You are always positive and motivated, what keeps you going?

My motivation comes from my father, he is one man that I have seen who has never given up, no matter what the state or situation is. His hard work, discipline, his determination and intent to keep his family happy and provide more than what we require is something that keeps motivating me all the time.

And, of course not to forget my mother who has been persistently and relentlessly supporting us and contributing to our growth.

I very strongly believe that we ourselves are the source of happiness and positivity, we just need various means to find it.

My daily regime is a major source of positivity in my life. Those small choices that I make every day amount to a peaceful mind. Like waking up early in the morning, journaling, spending at least an hour of silence with myself, where I review my previous day and visualize the whole present day.

In that moment of silence, I connect a lot within where I consciously reflect on my past thoughts and actions and make conscious efforts to improve upon them.

My small choices in a day bring in a lot of positivity …like reading,  listening to music, gardening, helping others, empowering others, trying to bring a smile to someone’s face. Choosing the right people around me is what I think is what makes the real difference within.

In your opinion, what are the keys to success?

a) Accepting & Loving myself, if I don’t accept and love myself enough, I can’t expect it from anyone else.

b) Responsibility and integrity

c) Consistency

d) Being passionate is very important

e) Character and Integrity.

f) Adopting small healthy habits

What advice would you give students and young professionals who want to have a successful career?

(i) Well, life is a journey full of challenges and it technically helps you grow but if you consistently keep comparing yourself to others achievements you will never be content with life.

(ii) Master what you are really good at, and leverage the ones you are not good at.

(iii) Always have a plan in place, whether it is short term, mid-term or long term. Your success can never shock you, u always PLAN FOR IT!!

(iv)Always look ahead with the right attitude and intend to achieve it, learn from your mistakes and never feel guilty about it. They are your stepping stones to becoming successful.

(v) Always focus on giving value to your customers, invest in building good relationships with them, be genuinely interested in them  . once you have managed to gain their trust, they can become your brand ambassadors and will endorse you even without your knowledge.

(vi) Last but not least – BE ETHICAL & CARING !!

These are a few success mantras that I follow and I truly advocate them to all who ask me.
