In our relentless pursuit to identify and share with our community some of the unique and compelling startup stories from the ecosystem, this week we spoke to Team SkillHub Learning to understand more about their journey, their vision and the way forward.

But first, more about Skillhub:

Skillhub is a Social Start-up with a strong focus on building strong and employable workforce covering all kind of Businesses. They have solutions for the complete spectrum ranging from the aspiring graduates to the unemployed youth who are ready to start their professional career. Skillhub helps professionals in developing the necessary skills to boost their career growth prospects in helping corporate in improving their business performance. Employability is the theme they work on and help the Youth identify the most appropriate Career option for them and prepare them for a grand Future. Let’s read their unique story!

Excerpts from our exclusive interview with the team:

Tell us a little bit about your startup (SkillHub Learning) and what’s was your ‘WHY’ in setting up SkillHub?

The reasons stem out from my unsuccessful attempt at switching my Career from Education/Training to HR. The rejections were not due to the lack of abilities in me, in fact in most cases evaluation never happened. I was rejected because I didn’t have any prior experience in HR. The two factors that had led me down in most cases were my qualification (non-MBA) and Experience (non HR on papers) despite me having a good understanding and some hands-on experience too. I found that most recruiters did not understand their required and most of the HR processes were broken

I looked for guidance and all that I got was as advice to get a degree/certificates and a fancy CV

I did all that. Attended a few certifications and enhanced my learning and registered for a PGDM program. Money was spent on creating CVs too. The only thing I could not buy was the experience

But somewhere I think I was responsible for not representing myself in the right way and decided to help others like me and to give them what I could not. I had lost my love for corporate by now and had two vows

1 – Help all the freshers/job seekers/career changers to build the necessary capabilities in HR

2 – Teach the HRs to manage their work with a Human approach, not the machine’s way

How does it work? What methodologies do you use?

We are training candidates on core HR strategies in a most practical way with the focus on hands-on learning. We are also engaging with SMEs and other businesses who need support in creating the right HR frameworks. These assignments are complimentary for them and we use it as an opportunity to expose our trainees with the real business problems. We serve two broad purposes here, first, our students get exposed to the problems and through our mentoring, we help them to overcome the business problems and two, the businesses also taste the Right HR frameworks (we are seeding the Right practices)

How does Skill Hub help its students?

Skill Hub has created multiple modules covering the most important facets of HR and their approach makes them different from others. Vivek’s focus is on learning, not training which is why all sessions are conducted as workshops rather than lectures. Live case studies are discussed to make the sessions engaging and ensuring that the participants are made to solve similar such problem cases.

How is your venture different from others and what are you doing to solve the major problems?

We have launched Mentoring services for HR professionals/aspirants where they are encouraged to choose the segments. He brings more HR professionals on the platform to deliver these Mentoring services. As of now, he has experts from OD, L&D, Talent Management, Assessment Centers, Payroll & Compliances, Talent Acquisition offering a bouquet of modules to the mentees where they create their own Menu and the Mentors work with them on the items chosen.

Final Word:

Vivek is a living example of how Rejection can be used to Create Value for oneself and for others in similar adverse situations.
